Missouri Rep

"Audiences lucky enough to see this show are going to have a wonderfully silly time... Perhaps the most finely tuned performances belong to Hurst and Rensenhouse as Lucy and her sinister suitor.  Both have the tough job of simultaneously projecting eroticism and humor.  In the opening scene a lighter-than-air Hurst flits around her father's study to music from the radio doing a dance of virginal celebration like something from an old Hollywood musical;  by Act 3 she's in a skintight evening dress and trying to sink her teeth into her fiance's neck...

When word gets out about this show, tickets are going to be harder to find than vampires at noon."

DRACULA
Missouri Rep - 1987

"...Missouri Rep's finest production to date... with actors so skilled that every exaggerated movement is precisely timed for laughs, and melodramatic techniques seem like method acting for real...director Dennis Rosa has assembled a cast here in Kansas City that will neve be better should it go on to the moon...

"Start with Melissa Hurst, as the ailing Lucy Seward, who begins the play floating around the stage as a vestal virgin in grey chiffon and ends up Jean Harlow in sexy satin...

..."This production of DRACULA may be a critics nightmare because there is nothing to criticize!... My hope is that Missouri Rep will run it on, and on, and on, for they will never be in debt again and every man, woman and child can see it..."
